It's a silly critique anyway: about as nonsensical as saying Overwatch needs a deathmatch mode because it's a shooter (yes, before you try to gotcha me: OW does have a DM mode. That's just how the game is designed-if you fall too far behind, you are teleported back into the action. When you play Onrush, it's nigh impossible to actually acquire much of a lead. The cars are all designed to move at the same speed the tracks are designed as battle arenas stuffed with things to ram into or ram others into, chokepoints, and otherwise would be very bad for actual racing. If you haven't played this, you don't understand how much the game is designed for its modes and design philosophy. No one who says this actually played Onrush, or if they have, they didn't play enough of it. The first criticism I want to address is that Onrush should have had traditional racing in it. The game is effectively a "racing" take on team-based hero shooters. You can think of it as a response to two common criticisms of the game I think are flawed (and for that note: if you're just going to come in here and mindlessly repeat those criticisms without reading the post, please reconsider).įor a very brief overview: Onrush is a vehicular combat game by Evolution Studios, published by Codemasters, whose main defining trait is that it does not feature traditional racing in any of its four modes (except it actually does have a racing mode, as I'll go into later): Overdrive is a points attack, Countdown is basically racing about getting time via driving through green checkpoints, Switch is a racing game take on gun game modes in FPS's, and Lockdown is basically King of the Hill. This isn't some super long detailed essay, mostly just me rambling about two things. If the game is, sadly, dead, I might as well set the record straight on a few things about it. Given that, I thought I might as well talk about the game, because I love it a lot and a lot of people don't understand it.
